Morning Message for January 13

Dear Beauvoir Friends,

I hope you enjoyed your weekend. Wasn’t the sunny weather beautiful? It felt strange to be so warm in January! This week we will be approaching the birthday of a very special civil rights leader in the lives of Americans. We celebrate and remember his legacy, or the important gifts he left behind, and can hopefully think about ways we can try to live the same way in our own lives.

The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta Georgia. He had an older sister, Willie Christine and a younger brother, Alfred Daniel. Young Martin was a very hardworking student at school and enjoyed singing in the choir and speaking in front of groups, also called public speaking.

There is a photo of young Martin and some members of his family below. Can you tell which one is Martin? Which one is Willie Christine? Alfred Daniel? His parents? His grandmother? What made you think this?

Have a great day!

Mrs. Gibbs-Wilborn
